One-day strike

Teachers from South Carleton High School were among those who picketed in front of the office of Carleton Progressive Conservative MPP Goldie Ghamari in Richmond today. The teachers marched along Perth Street in Richmond between the MPP’s constituency office and the Richmond Memorial Community Centre. Classes are expected to resume tomorrow, and schools that were closed are expected to re-open. The Ontario Secondary School Teachers Federation called for the one-day strike at public schools over proposed larger class sizes, funding cuts, a law limiting wage increases for Ontario public servants to one per cent, and mandatory online courses for secondary school students.
The OSSTF represents staff at both secondary and elementary schools. They include teachers, educational workers and assistants, office workers and custodians.
